SOLAR MATERIALS has doubled its annual recycling capacity for solar modules to 14,000 tons, marking a significant step in the company’s growth and its contribution to Europe’s circular economy. At the same time, the company is introducing a flexible, modular capacity model designed to support rapid expansion into additional European markets.

Since spring 2025, SOLAR MATERIALS has been operating the world’s most advanced industrial-scale recycling plant for solar modules. The decision to increase capacity is driven by growing demand for sustainable recycling solutions for end-of-life photovoltaic panels and the urgent need to recover strategic raw materials such as silicon and silver.

Modular Capacity Designed for Europe’s Recycling Needs

Thanks to the modular design of its recycling line, SOLAR MATERIALS can quickly respond to rising demand across Europe and beyond. Entire system modules can be relocated and commissioned within weeks, enabling the company to establish recycling infrastructure precisely where end-of-life solar modules are generated. The current expansion strategy focuses on strengthening Europe’s energy and resource sovereignty, with particular emphasis on Germany, core European markets and the United Kingdom.

Recovering Critical Raw Materials for the Circular Economy

Using its patented mechanical recycling process, SOLAR MATERIALS is able to recover all materials contained in discarded solar modules. These high-quality secondary raw materials are reintegrated into European value chains. Silicon and silver, in particular, are classified as critical resources, and their recovery plays a key role in securing Europe’s long-term access to essential materials.

Our technology is ready for the European market. We can deploy our recycling line to new locations in a very short time and build infrastructure exactly where end-of-life modules arise – says Dr. Jan-Philipp Mai, CEO of SOLAR MATERIALS. – Every ton we recycle keeps valuable materials in Europe — silver, silicon, aluminium, copper and glass. This is not only environmentally responsible, but also strengthens the European Union’s economic independence.
