New date: R+T postponed until 2022

Messe Stuttgart is postponing the next edition of the R+T – the leading world trade fair for roller shutters, doors/gates and sun protection systems – to 21 to 25 February 2022.

This decision was based on the intensive discussions between the project managers and all partners, supporter associations, the Trade Fair Advisory Board and leading manufacturers. During the last few weeks an intensive and, at times, personal survey of national and international exhibitors was also conducted. This survey also produced a clear result.

From the very first day, we focused on close and transparent communication with everyone involved. The intensive discussions and the exhibitor survey clearly show that R+T cannot be reliably staged at present with its accustomed quality, especially on account of the high internationality and the extremely long preparation phase – said Roland Bleinroth, President and CEO of Messe Stuttgart.

R+T is much more than just a trade fair! The exchanges with colleagues, intensive technical discussions, numerous networking events and accompanying events make R+T a large family gathering every three years. However, all this cannot be guaranteed under the present conditions. Although it was not easy for us to make this decision after two and half years of planning, preparation and commitment, it is the only correct one at present – added Sebastian Schmid, Department Director Technology at Messe Stuttgart. – By postponing R+T to 2022, we primarily want to give our exhibitors and partners the greatest possible planning security. In February 2022 manufacturers will again be able to access the entire R+T network which they know and are accustomed to. We are pleased that we and the industry have found a solution in order to repeat the previous success of the leading world trade fair.

New digital R+T format in 2021

However, the postponement of R+T also opens up new opportunities and doors for the industry.

In the originally scheduled event period, i.e. 22 to 26 February 2021, all our exhibitors will have the opportunity to present their developed innovations and new products to trade visitors all over the world during the digital R+T – said Sebastian Schmid.

The centrepiece of this digital format will be the R+T Innovation Award which will be staged according to the original plans as a live event. Key topics such as handicraft, the smart home and architecture will also be examined. The programme will be supplemented by hybrid, industry-specific technical talks and different matchmaking services. The presented contents will also be available online after the digital R+T for another 365 days up to the next R+T and will be regularly updated.

In the next few weeks we will finalise the concept for the digital R+T and will start the first implementations directly. We will also take all the important steps to ensure a successful R+T in 2022. We can hardly wait to welcome all our exhibitors and visitors in person again in Stuttgart from 21 to 25 February 2022 – said a delighted Sebastian Schmid.

Views from the sector on the new date for R+T:

Heinrich Abletshauser, President of the Federal Association for Manufacturers of Roller Shutters and Sun Protection: R+T is the industry trade fair and offers an incomparable experience. The efficiency of the entire industry is demonstrated here and products can be directly compared. This also includes direct exchanges between craft enterprises and manufacturers in order to make the products tangible in two senses. The postponement of R+T to 2022 is welcomed and gives us all planning security.

Claus Schwenzer, Chairman of the National Federation of Door and Gate Manufacturers (BVT): We very much welcome the early decision to postpone R+T. It gives exhibitors security and prevents them from incurring high costs. We are looking forward to February 2022. We will then again experience a R+T which brings together visitors and exhibitors from all over the world in Stuttgart.

Lars Rippstein, Managing Director of the Industrial Association for Technical Textiles, Roller Shutters and Sun Protection (ITRS): Social distancing or even wearing a mask at our most important industry meeting point? We prefer here to wait one more year and then meet again in an entirely relaxed manner in Stuttgart in 2022! We regard the postponement as the only correct decision and are already looking forward to 2022!

Klaus Braun, Managing Director of Alukon KG: As the leading world trade fair for the industry, the appeal of R+T is primarily due to its international character and personal contacts. In view of the current situation, we believe that the postponement of R+T is the only correct decision. We fully support this decision as a long-standing exhibitor. We are looking forward to R+T 2022.

Maik Wiegelmann, Head of the Becker Academy at Becker Antriebe GmbH: In light of the responsible handling of the current situation, I welcome the postponement of R+T – but also naturally with mixed feelings. The positive atmosphere and the continually increasing international character of the trade fair make it an unforgettable experience. It will therefore also be worthwhile to wait a short year longer for the event!

Stephan Kleine, Managing Director of GfA ELEKTROMATEN GmbH & Co. KG: When deciding to take part in R+T, the international character of the trade fair in particular is very important to us. However, since this cannot be guaranteed to the required extent on account of the current situation, we fully support the decision to postpone the trade fair to 2022.

Klaus Wuchner, Sales & Marketing Director, markilux GmbH + Co. KG: The leading world trade fair and a world affected by the corona pandemic do not go together. An excessive and incalculable risk both from health and economic aspects. 2022 will be the right year for a personal meeting of the R+T community. Hopefully, everyone will then be able to clearly carry out planning and make calculations.

Marc Meißner, Managing Director of Meißner GmbH Toranlagen: At every R+T we look forward to meeting old acquaintanceship and new faces, and seeing the positive reactions to our pioneering innovations for door and gate technology. However, a R+T as we know it would not be possible under the current conditions. We therefore fully support the decision to postpone the trade fair. In spite of the postponement and other ancillary conditions, R+T belongs in the calendar!

Tobias Löhner, Marketing Manager, ROMA KG: The leading world trade fair R+T in Stuttgart is one of the most important events for our company. The personal encounters and intensive discussions with the industry are simply irreplaceable. The "T" in "R+T" could therefore also stand for "true loyalty". Just like R+T is always a reliable partner for us, we will remain true at this time and are looking forward to a successful R+T in 2022!

Manfred Heissenberger, Managing Director of Sattler SUN-TEX GmbH: R+T in Stuttgart is the most important international meeting point for our industry; it is a place for meetings, inspiration and innovation. This spirit for 2021 is endangered by COVID-19. We therefore back the postponement of R+T and would like to thank the trade fair managers for the active communication. Here at Sattler we are already looking forward to R+T 2022!

Stephan Schweiker, Managing Director of Robert Schweiker GmbH: We attach maximum priority to the health and safety of our employees and business partners. We therefore fully support the postponement of R+T from 2021 to 2022 and hope that we will be able to return to Stuttgart without any problems in 2022.

Andreas Böck, Managing Director of SELVE GmbH & Co. KG: R+T is 'dear to our heart' and the main event for the roller shutter and sun protection industry.  In light of the current general conditions and the desire for planning security for both our company and our customers, we fully support the decision to postpone R+T to 2022.

Jean-Luc Sarter, Managing Director of Somfy Central Europe: Safety has top priority not only during the corona pandemic. We therefore support the decision to postpone R+T. As the leading world trade fair, it is the largest industry meeting point to exchange ideas and information with partners and customers. Important business transactions and cooperation agreements are concluded here. We are looking forward to a successful event with many exciting product innovations in 2022.

Karl Rödelbronn, Managing Director of Rödelbronn GmbH: As the leading world trade fair for roller shutters, doors/gates and sun protection systems, R+T is a permanent fixture in our company's diary. In view of the current corona pandemic, early postponement is the right decision and gives planning security to everyone involved. We are looking forward to R+T 2022.

Christian Steinberg, Director Global Market, Warema Renkhoff SE: We welcome the postponement of the international industry meeting point R+T. That's because it is uncertain how the corona pandemic and the related health and travel regulations will develop up until spring next year. Social distancing and the obligation to wear a mask will make it difficult to hold open, personal discussions and cultivate existing relationships, something which this trade fair depends on. We are placing our hopes on 2022!
